As a learning platform provider, itslearning believes that technology in the hands of a great teacher can do more to transform lives; but in regions where virtual learning environments are not yet a reality, we provide a helping hand in other ways.
This year, as we did last year, itslearning is proud to support the charity African Promise, which works with primary schools in a remote corner of rural Kenya, by sponsoring their annual Christmas Carol Service in London.
African Promise is a small but ambitious charity supporting a network of eight partner schools and more than 3,000 children in the Kasigau region of Kenya.
Schools in Kenya, particularly those in rural areas are challenged by large class numbers, a shortage of teachers, cramped and dilapidated facilities, and an absence of basic learning resources. Pupil welfare is a huge issue: there are unhygienic sanitation facilities, an absence of feeding programmes, and a lack of clean drinking water. These challenges have a severe impact on absenteeism and drop-out, the quality of teaching and learning, and of course, academic attainment and performance.
Over the last 15 years African Promise has invested more than £1.5m to build child-friendly schools that are safe and conducive for learning, equipped with essential resources and qualified teachers, and that can provide a daily lunchtime meal to their pupils when many would normally learn on an empty stomach.
itslearning is delighted to be working with African Promise this Christmas to help children in rural Kenya have access to a better primary education and to make the long walk to school, that so many children in this part of the world face each day, a worthwhile one.

Guests will enjoy an evening of musical performances, seasonal readings, and congregational carols. There will be performances by London International Gospel Choir, soprano Katie Marshall, as well as a host of new celebrity guest readers including Greg Wise, Adam James, and Sir Jonathan Pryce CBE.
Tickets are priced at £28 and thanks to the support of itslearning and other sponsors, almost every penny raised from the night will go towards supporting the 3,000 disadvantaged children across African Promise’s network of partner schools.
