What is the Manolo Grant?
Resulting from the decree of February 7, 2019, the Manolo subsidy is described on the enseignement. be website as the payment of a subsidy/grant to schools in basic, secondary, ordinary and/or specialized education, organized or subsidized by the French Community from the year 2020.
More specifically, each Organizing Authority in subsidized education or each school for WBE networks was allocated, at the beginning of January 2020, a grant/endowment that falls under the purchase :
- textbooks,
- literature books,
- digital resources,
- certified teaching tools
An Excel list containing (among other things) the approved teaching aids can also be downloaded from the enseignement.be website. The list was updated on April 6.
The grant/endowment allocated to schools is used only for the purchase of approved or labeled textbooks, digital resources and/or teaching aids, as well as for the purchase of literature books. Books from these approved publishers may be purchased as part of the Manolo grant/allocation.
itslearning labelled Manolo
For 2 years now, the itslearning platform has been eligible for the Manolo subsidy (Manuels Scolaires, Logiciels Scolaires et Outils Pédagogiques). This label, which enabled the itslearning LMS to be recognized as being of pedagogical utility, was (and still is) welcomed as good news by Belgian schools and institutions, which can now benefit from a financial contribution from the Fédération de Wallonie-Bruxelles (FWB) as part of the platform's deployment.
Strong support for digital development in Belgium
More than just another label, Manolo represents a major asset for itslearning, enabling it to contribute to the development of learning in Wallonia. Even today, many schools have yet to take the digital plunge, due to a lack of suitable solutions and, above all, a lack of budget.
"By positioning ourselves as a subsidized platform, we want to offer a chance for Walloon schools and institutions to initiate a digital transition at lower cost and in-fine meet the demands and needs of today's generations with a customizable learning platform."
Finally, while this decree seems to clearly indicate a desire to democratize the use of digital technology in Belgian schools, the current context (COVID-19, to name but one) tends to temper our enthusiasm by reminding us that it remains difficult to project ourselves. And therein lies the paradox: if a school closes, what better alternative than a learning platform to ensure pedagogical continuity?
